Events

Each year Clean Air Champions host a large number of events and activities to increase Canadians' awareness of the connection between air quality and health.

The core of our delivery is the Champions-led presentations and activities related to our three core programs - High School Climate Challenge, HSBC Clean Air Achievers and Air Aware.

Each year we host a special event - a Zero Energy Dinner. SOLD OUT this year in Ottawa, Oct 2nd.

    Location: Larkhall Academy, St. John's, Newfoundland
    CAC Champion Jamie Korab will be presenting the Air Aware program to Larkhall Academy, in St. John's Newfoundland. In 2006 Jamie received the order of NL, an Honorary Doctorate of Law Degree from MUN, an Olympic Gold Medal, Canadian Team of the Year and the Newfoundland & Labrador Team of the Year. He also competed at The Brier in 2003,04,05 & 07 finishing Runner-up this past year. In 2001 he was awarded World Junior Champion and NL Team of the Year. Jamie was also Runner up at Canadian Junior Curling Championships in 2000.

    Clean Air Champion Douglas Vandor will be delivering the Air Aware Program to Parkland Secondary School in Sidney BC. Douglas started rowing at McGill University and has been on the National Team since 2002. He is also a 2004 and 2008 Olympian. He has competed at a world level with 3x Bronze medalist at World Rowing Championships, 1 World Cup Gold medal and 2 World Cup Silver medals.

    Clean Air Champion Sharon Donnelly will present the Air Aware Program to students at Carine Wilson Secondary School in Ottawa, ON.
    Sharon has represented Canada in over 45 World Cups, traveling around the globe during her 9 years on the National Triathlon Team. Canadian Champion 3 times over, she won Gold at the 1999 Pan Am Games and competed in the 2000 Olympics Games in Sydney. After retirement Sharon quickly moved into coaching and worked with the USA Triathlon Team at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center for 3 years leading to her going to Beijing 2008 Olympics as the coach for the USA Triathlon Team. Sharon uses her experiences to motivate others to never give up and love sport for what it is, because winning is rare, but the experiences of striving last a lifetime. Sharon is now back in Canada, focused on raising her 2 young children and making plans to get back to coaching.

    Clean Air Champion, Katie Weatherston will present the Air Aware Program to students at Pineview Public School in Athens, ON.

    Katie was selected to the Canadian Junior hockey team in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. She helped Canada win Gold 2 years in a row at the Air Canada Cup held in Germany. Katie continued to progress and became a member of the women’s national team in 2004. She has won Gold medals at 3 Four Nations Cup tournaments, as well as a gold medal at the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy. She has also won a Gold medal at the 2007 World Championships, which was held in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 2008, she won a silver medal in the World Championships in China. Katie had the honor of carrying the Olympic Torch in her hometown of Thunder Bay. Currently, she is injured but her goal is to make the 2014 Olympic Team. Katie has a degree in Psychology and is an Elementary School Teacher. Katie is also the owner/head instructor of the Superior Edge ALL GIRLS Hockey School and she is the assistant coach of an intermediate AA girl’s hockey team in Ottawa.

    Location: Brampton, ON
    Clean Air Champion Heather Logan-Sprenger will present the Air Aware Program to students at Central Peel Secondary School in Brampton, ON.
    Heather began her professional career first playing hockey. From 2002-2006, she was a member of the National Women's Hockey Team. Heather is a 3 time U-22 European Air Canada Cup Champion and 5-time National Women's Hockey League Champion. In 2004, she was the Captain of the U22 National Women's Hockey Team and inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on the Esso Wall of Champions. Heather then began road cycling in 2008. She placed 4th at National Road Cycling Championships in 2008 & 2009 and became a member of the 2009 National Women's Cycling Team. Heather competed for Canada at 4 World Cups and then at World Championships in Medrisio Switzerland in September 2009. She placed top 20 in 2 one-day World Cup races.

    Andrew Haley, Champion, and Kim Cunningham, Air Aware National Program Manager, will deliver an informative presentation for staff and Team Asthma ambassadors at the Asthma Society of Canada executive offices in Toronto.

    CAC Champion Andrew Haley will be presenting the Air Aware Program to teachers attending the Toronto Catholic District School Board Conference!

    Andrew is a champion at all levels of sport. He won World Championships both in 1998 and 2002 as well as a gold medal at the 2000 Paralympic games. Andrew is also a multiple world record holder and enjoys pushing the limits to see how far he can go.
