Sport:     Speed Skating - Long Track 1000m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, Team Pursuit   Community:     Calgary, AB   Languages:     English, French   Why the environment is important to me:     I realize that my activity in speed skating has an impact on the environment - from flying overseas for competitions to skating in indoor ovals. The environment is important to me not because I am an athlete, but because I am a human being. If I can help find ways to reduce the impact of my sport on the environment as well as my own personal impact then I can help others do the same.   Why I'm a Clean Air Champion:     Being a Clean Air Champion means that I care about more than just skating fast. It's important for me as an athlete to give back in ways that I find meaningful and effective. I care about the state of our planet and one way I can help effect positive change in the realm of the environment is by being a Clean Air Champion.		View full size image

Career Highlights
	Introducing Kristina Groves:
		I won two silver medals (1500m & Team Pursuit) at the Olympics in Torino in 2006. I placed third overall at the 2006 World All-Round Championships. At the 2007 World Single Distance Championships I placed 3rd in the 1500m and was a member of the Gold winning pursuit team. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.

		Two Silver medals in Torino 2006 (1500m, TP) 3rd overall at 2006 World All-Round Championships 1500m Bronze, Team Pursuit Gold at 2007 World Single Distance Championships 2 Time Ottawa Athlete of the Year (2005, 2006)

		athlete Volunteered for 1 summer as a steward at the Cross Conservation area south of Calgary.
