Why the environment is important to me:
Reducing our impact on the environment is important to me as a skier because the Glaciers and snow levels are receding, and because of pollution that likely affects my health, but the problem is immeasurably more important than that. Make no mistake, the continued existence of humans on Earth as we know it depends on the survivability of its Ecosystems. We now know that the sustainability of the Atmosphere, the Oceans, the Fresh Water, the Plants, and the Animals of the Earth are ALL being very seriously undermined, at a rapidly INCREASING rate. The Global Environmental Crisis is an urgent issue of paramount importance that needs much greater attention and action, at all levels. Action begins with one's self, then it blossoms when one reaches out to others. Collective action can 'move mountains'.
Why I'm a Clean Air Champion:
Canada is known for it's vast natural areas, you might be surprised to learn that Canada has one of the worst environmental records in the developed world. The first crucial step, one that has the greatest potential for immediate change is to REDUCE our impact on the environment. Being a Clean Air Champion is important to me because the program targets youth, the consciousness of our future, with an important message for lifestyle changes that works towards these goals, as well as enhancing their personal health and well being.
