Our Privacy Principles:
In formulating and adhering to our privacy policy, we are guided by the following principles:

1. Accountability:
Our organization is responsible for personal information under our control.

2. Identifying Purposes for Collection of Personal Information:
Our organization will identify the purposes for which personal information is collected at or before the time the information is collected.

3. Obtaining Consent for Collection, Use or Disclosure of Personal Information:
Our organization will make a reasonable effort to ensure that you understand how your information is used and disclosed by us. We will not collect, use or disclose your information without your consent, except as permitted or required by law.

4. Limiting Collection of Personal Information:
Our organization will limit the amount and type of information we collect from you. We will only collect information from you as necessary for the purposes that we have identified. We will collect personal information by fair and lawful means.

5. Limiting Use, Disclosure and Retention of Personal Information:
Our organization will only use or disclose your information for the purposes for which it was originally collected, unless you give us your consent to use or disclose it for another purpose. However, under certain exceptional circumstances, we may be permitted or required by law to disclose or use your information without your consent.

6. Accuracy of Personal Information:
Our organization will strive to keep your information as accurate, complete, current and relevant as necessary. If you identify any errors in your information, please contact us and we will correct the errors.

7. Security Safeguards:
Our organization will protect your information with safeguards that are appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.

8. Openness Concerning Policies and Practices:
Our organization is open about the policies and practices that we employ to manage your information, and will provide you with information about these policies and practices in a manner that is easy to understand.

9. Access to Personal Information:
Upon request, our organization will advise you what information we have about you, what we are using it for, and to whom it has been disclosed or transferred for processing.

10. Challenging Compliance:
Our organization will act on any issues you may identify to us with respect to our compliance with this policy and/or our practices relating to the handling of your information.

Privacy Policy:
Clean Air Champions applies its ten principles to its privacy policy and is committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information of all its stakeholders. These stakeholders include employees, members, and members of the public who are registered participants in a Clean Air Champions program or project. We value the trust of those we deal with, and of the public, and recognize that maintaining this trust requires that we be transparent and accountable in how we treat the information you choose to share with us.

During the course of our various projects and activities we frequently gather and use personal information. Anyone from whom we collect such information should expect that it will be carefully protected and that any use of or other dealing with this information is subject to consent. Our privacy practices are designed to achieve this.

Our staff is authorized to access personal information based on their need to deal with the information for the reason(s) for which it was obtained. Safeguards are in place to ensure that the information is not disclosed or shared with any other organization at any time. All information gathered for use by Clean Air Champions will not be used for any other purposes than our own. All personal information is protected and we take measures to ensure the integrity of this information is maintained. As a matter of policy, we do not sell or rent any personal information to third parties for their marketing, or any other purposes.

Personal information is any information that can be used to identify, distinguish or contact a specific individual including opinions and beliefs, financial information, birthdates and other identifying data but does not include the name, title or business address or telephone number of an employee of an organization.

Website and Electronic Commerce
Where necessary and when relevant, we use password protocols and encryption software to protect personal and other information we receive when transactions (memberships, donations) are made online.

From time to time we may enter into arrangements with organizations that offer third-party online services. Clean Air Champions will ensure that these organizations have clearly stated privacy policies that meet or exceed our guidelines.

Updating of privacy policy
We regularly review our privacy practices for our various activities, and periodically update our policy and procedures.

Program Specific Privacy Policy:

Personal information gathered by Clean Air Champions for its school [and other] programs is kept in strict confidence. All personal information provided from program surveys and website registrations is for purposes of the projects and is used for participant identification and statistical analysis. We give you our assurance that this information will be held in strict confidence and will only be accessed by Clean Air Champions staff, and by the student's teacher (for the surveys only).

The personal information requested of students is for the following purposes:

  1. Link Student to Teacher/Class - To identify the student so we can track his/her progress, link he/she to the class and teacher, and for our staff to quickly identify a student should there be errors in data;
  2. Generalize, Statistical Analysis - A postal code is requested so that we can produce generalized analysis of geographical barriers to participation in the programs. At no time will an individual's postal code be used for any other purposes.
  3. E-mail Notification - the purpose of requesting an e-mail address is so that the teachers can notify students directly when they have attained the bronze, silver, or gold certificate of achievement, as well as for administrative and program-related matters. This e-mail address will not be used for any solicitation, or other purposes.

All information gathered in the program surveys is information to be used ONLY for statistical analysis. None of this personal information will be shared, sold, or provided in any way to any third party.

Minors and Other Website Links

Once children link out of our site, they make their own web site choices. We strongly encourage parents to use the Internet with their children, and to provide clear guidelines for Internet use. If you find a link to something inappropriate in our site, please contact us immediately. We will look into it and take any necessary action.
